VR LA Cereza Releases New Wine for Women
Temecula | CA
TEMECULA, Calif. - VR La Cereza Winery has released Girlfriends ($16.95),
the first wine produced in Southern California that is designed specifically
to appeal to female palates.
"With women making 80 percent of the wine-buying decisions, why not make a
special wine just for them," said Cheri Linn, winery co-owner who helped
create the unique wine.
The new light, flavorful and dry white wine with overtones of citrus, melon
and papaya is made from dry Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and
Chardonnay reserve grapes.
With the help of winemaker Gus Vizgirda, Cheri and about six of her
girlfriends taste tested about eight different white wine combinations
before giving the thumbs up to the final formulation for Girlfriends, which
is available at the winery along with a line of Girlfriends clothing,
accessories and games.
The wine, whose whimsical label features a cigar-smoking Cuban grandmother,
also can be found at selected Stater Bros. supermarkets in the Temecula
Valley.
"I wanted to create a distinctive wine that a woman could pick up and share
with a group of her girlfriends," said Cheri.
VR La Cereza is the very successful successor to Van Roekel Winery. La
Cereza, Spanish for cherry, is setting a new standard in Temecula's Wine
Country with its fine wine, fine art, fine music and food. Girlfriends is
the latest wine from VR La Cereza that features original artwork on its
label. Paintings by world-known artist Anton Arkhipov grace labels on the
winery's Pasion del Rubi and 2002 Garnacha (Grenache).
For two years in a row, VR La Cereza Winery has produced the
best wine in the Temecula Valley. At the Temecula Valley Wine
Society's Second Annual Wine Competition, VR La Cereza was named
the sweepstakes winner for its 2005 Gewurztraminer ($14.95).
Last year a 2002 Garnacha ($29.95), from VR La Cereza was the sweepstakes
winner.
VR La Cereza also was honored for its 2005 Temecula Valley Viognier, which
was named the best in the state at the 2006 California State Fair Commercial
Wine Competition that attracted more than 2,900 entries from more than 650
wineries.
Located at 34567 Rancho California Road in the heart of Temecula's Wine
Country, the tasting room and gallery at VR La Cereza is open daily from 10
