A pleasant break in the rain...
Would to have been invited to the wine makers rain dance! It must have been Some Party because this storm brought 20% of our season's rain-to-date. We're still below "normal" for this time of year so there's opportunity for more dancing. Now we have dew-drops strewn like gems over the soft grass, at night the sweet serenade of amorous frogs in the vernal pools, and during the day, the Snowy Egrets are keeping an eye on those frolicking frogs.
Which reminds me, the big event for many people this month is Valentine's Day. My recommendation: Carpe Diem! Seize the Day! We've included some suggestions above. For my Sweetie, I should buy a 10-second "I love You" spot on some nationally broadcast sports event - that might make an impression. I've bought him chocolate yummies before, which he professes to love, but the uneaten half ends up in the refrigerator; months later it resembles a goodie from Miss Haversham's table. Ah, but the half taken...
People frequently ask me when is the best time to visit - what can I say? It's always nice - Really! No snow, except in the local hills every 5 years, a little frost in the winter, polite rain, never too hot or humid. What's not to like? Come anytime! For those of us that live here, we especially enjoy the winter and spring when the hills are green and the tasting room staff at the wineries are relaxed and have plenty of time to chat.
