Come experience all that's new at Robert Mondavi Winery in the heart of Napa Valley. This year marked completion of the To Kalon Project, a $30 million renovation of the winery, the first major remodel since 1966. With our new facilities we seek the best of Old World traditions and New World technology to create wines that honor what has become one of the world's premier winegrowing regions. When you visit our winery, you will experience the family's commitment to excellence and education and share in our philosophy of integrating wine, food and the arts into gracious living.
We offer a wide variety of unique tours and programs to suit everyone from the novice to the collector. Our Vineyard & Winery Tour, which is offered all day long beginning at 10 a.m., follows the path of the grape from the vineyard through the new To Kalon fermentation cellar to the finished wine stored in our beautiful underground first-year barrel aging room. Afterwards, enjoy a tasting of Robert Mondavi wines with an hors d'oeuvre paired to our featured wine of the month. This tour takes 75-90 minutes and the tariff is $10 per person.
Designed for visitors who are looking for a more in-depth experience, our Winegrowing Tour offers education on all aspects of winegrowing, including research and developments in viticulture, fermentation techniques and barrel aging. The Essence Tour & Tasting unveils the mysteries of aromatic essences commonly associated with red and white wines such as green apple, leather, peach, smoke, pineapple and oak. For a lovely lunch, sign up for Picnic in the Vineyards. We'll transport you to our historic To Kalon Vineyard where some of our finest vines grow, and you'll enjoy a delicious picnic luncheon under the shade of a sprawling oak tree.
If you don't have time for a tour, our tasting rooms offer a selection of wines for purchase by the taste. Our To Kalon Tasting Room provides an elegant environment to enjoy the very best Robert Mondavi Winery has to offer - limited production and reserve wines. In the Appellation Tasting Room, we invite you to explore the appellations and vineyards of Napa Valley through Robert Mondavi's District and vineyard designated wines. Finally, visit our wine shop, Le Marche, featuring the full array of Robert Mondavi wines. You may choose from a broad selection of lifestyle merchandise and wine accessories as well as books on everything from basic wine education to cooking to olive oil.
The Robert Mondavi Winery is open to visitors daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and reservations are highly recommended for our tours. Due to the educational nature of these programs, children are permitted only on the Vineyard and Winery Tour. For more information on any of our programs, visit our web site at http://www.robertmondaviwinery.com/tastings.asp or call 1.888-RMONDAVI ext 2000. Also, if you would like to be kept up-to-date on Robert Mondavi news, events and wine releases, please sign up for our e-newsletter by visiting http://www.robertmondavi.com/seasonalnews/signup.asp.

On Saturday July 15, 2001, members of the editorial staff at WineCountry.com were fortunate enough to attend and experience the Home Winemakers Classic 2001: Sips of Wine Through Time. The event took place at St. Supery Winery and Wine Discovery Center, in Rutherford, California. The Home Winemakers Classic was not just an opportunity to drink wine and share good conversation, but also to raise funds for the Dry Creek-Loloya Fire Department. The event perfectly paired community care and the love of winemaking.

This month's recipe comes from Denise Travao - WineCountry.com's Human Resources Manager. She writes, "I use it when I have unexpected guest and I need to whip-up something quick. Everyone is always impressed. They think I slaved all day over the stove for it. They just don't know how quick and easy it is!"

¼ c Butter or Olive Oil
3 cloves Garlic, minced
1c Chardonnay Wine
1 pint of Heavy Cream
½ c Parmesan Cheese
Chopped Fresh Basil
Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and toss with one tablespoon of olive oil. Cover and set aside.
Sauté garlic, basil and crab meat in butter or oil over low heat till tender. Set aside. Heat wine and cream in a saucepan over low heat bringing to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil and stir one minute. Pour over crab mixture; add Parmesan; mix well. Add pepper to taste.
