TOLOSA WINES
Room with a View
In 1998, when Tolosa wines were first released, they were custom crushed at Courtside Cellars, in Edna Valley, which offered winemakers without wineries state-of-the-art production facilities in which to ply their trade.
But without a tasting room, Tolosa’s superb Edna Valley-focused Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah did not get the attention they merited. But that all changed last September when partners in both Tolosa and Courtside Cellars opened a spectacular tasting space for Tolosa wines amidst the vineyards of Courtside Cellars. With French doors opening out onto majestic vineyard views, as well as a viewing window where visitors can watch winemaker Ed Felice and his crew hard at work on the cellar floors below, Tolosa wines are now very much in the Edna Valley spotlight.
Felice had been making wine in Monterey for 26 years, but after tasting an Edna Valley Chardonnay, he notes that “the quality of Edna Valley grapes made me realize that something special was here.” And now visitors to the area can taste that special something for themselves while relaxing in one of the area’s most welcoming tasting rooms. – Kathy Marcks Hardesty
