It’s an experience every wine country visitor’s had before: arrive in wine
country, do a whirlwind tour of a handful of great wineries, enjoy a world-class
meal or two and a comfy stay in a luxe cottage or quaint B&B, then leave.
That’s right – leave.
If you’re anything like me, it probably seems like just as soon as your
visitor’s crush on wine country is blossoming into a full blown romance
it’s time to check back into the real world (i.e. catch your Sunday evening
flight home). Which is a real shame, because crushes – even little ones
– can be so much fun.
Well, good news is here for visitors who don’t want to bid adieu to wine
country romance just because they have to – yawn – show up at work again
on Monday morning.
MicroCrush Nets Mega Memories
At Judd’s Hill MicroCrush, a custom winemaking facility located
on the Silverado Trail just outside the city of Napa, regular people like
you and me can make our own wine. Participants can be involved as little
or as much as they’d like, but no matter how involved you get in the actual
winemaking process, you can look forward to enjoying the fruits of your
labor long after you return home.
With custom lots starting as small as one barrel (which makes 24 cases
of wine, or 288 bottles), it’s easy for folks with a hankering for the good
stuff to get their own, to go. Choose your own fruit from one of several
of the operation’s contract growers, pick your barrel type and decide on
your blend. Before long, your wine will be ready for you to sip at home,
bringing back memories of wine country and all its romance along with it.
Barrel Blending Day Camp
Even better yet, besides its all-inclusive winemaking service –
which encompasses everything from fruit sourcing to licensing and label
creation to bottling – MicroCrush now offers a way for visitors to get
even more involved with the process while they’re in wine country.
Barrel Blending Day Camp is a new half-day program during which groups
of up to six guests are invited to mix their own wine at MicroCrush with
the help of the program’s winemakers. Participants create their own “proprietary”
blend from a selection of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet
Franc. And as if that’s not enough, the unique hands-on experience culminates
in a celebratory lunch with the winemakers complemented by a selection of
rare wines from their cellar.
You CAN Take it With You
The folks behind the operation – longtime Napa residents and vintners
Art and Bunnie Finkelstein and their son Judd and his wife, Holly – are
well known for their warm hospitality and expertise in winemaking: the
Finkelsteins founded Whitehall Lane Winery in the 70s and have since partnered
with Judd on Judd’s Hill and MicroCrush.
Which makes them the perfect hosts for your wine country crush adventure,
something you’ll relive with each and every one of the 288 bottles you take
home with you.
